book1 (45K)by Barbara Randall and Erika Roman Saint-Pierre
Illustratred by Kira Brant
Sponsored Charity: Women for Women International

This mother and daughter writing team bravely take readers along on their journey toward healing in this courageous collection of poetry. Locked In highlights the long-range effect of child abuse; exploring the acts of violence that destroy and the silence that denies.

Barbara, a woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder, courageously introduces the reader to her many "selves" and each voice has her own story, her own triumph, her own shame.

Erika, Barbara's daughter, peers into her mother, noticing her mother is not just one person, but many very different people all wrapped into one. Erika shares her own struggle with her own abuse and her struggles with having a mother for whom she feels anger and helpless for at the same time.

The poetry is heartfelt and carries the voice of its authors, whomever they may be, if it is Barbara, Erika, Babs or Bobbie. The genuine voice of each other carries through for a genuine book of poetry of a difficult subject.

This third edition of Locked In includes resource information provided by The Sidrian Insititute.

Sidrrain is a nonprofit organization that helps people understand, recover from, and treat traumatic stress dissociative disorders, and co-occurring issues, such as addictions, self injury, and suicidality.
